Aurora Aksnes' earliest musical memory is of finding the piano within her attic, then becoming fascinated with the sounds it produced. Parents May-Britt and Jan Oystein Aksnes encouraged her to take up music not as a career or hobby but for growth. In order to do so she wrote her first new compositions. She cites renowned songwriters Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan in her influences, along with an appreciation for the style of Bjork. Her mother urged her to play her songs in public, not to achieve fame, but rather to make others aware of how significant that they are, and the impact they can do for the world. She started playing piano when she was six years old and started composed music by the age of nine. It was not until she turned 14 that she revealed her plans to her parents. She never had a desire to be Aurora. She says she just likes music and writing. According to her, music is the best method to communicate anything.
